Welcome to Balloon Deck, we’re a small business located in Melbourne’s West!

Since 2020, we've been bringing joy, colour, and magic to events and celebrations. At Balloon Deck, we're more than just a balloon business – we're creators of beautiful moments. From birthdays, engagements, baby showers, bridal showers, special milestones and everything in between, we specialise in transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences.

From concept to completion, we're with you every step of the way, ensuring a seamless and stress-free experience. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and our goal is to exceed your expectations.

WHO ARE WE?

Michella is the face and balloon artist behind Balloon Deck, where she brings her colourful ideas to life and makes every event unforgettable.

After spending years in the corporate world, she discovered a new passion - turning event styling and decorating from a fun hobby into a small business.

With her Filipino background, Michella has always loved hosting and planning memorable parties and gathering for her family and friends. She treasures quality time with loved ones, ensuring every gathering with warmth, joy, and a touch of sparkle.

Balloon Deck is her playful outlet, a way to show the fun, vibrant side of her personality. Meeting new people, collaborating with other talented vendors, and putting smiles on faces is what motivates and encourages her.

More than just decorations, Balloon Deck is about creating colourful, joyful moments that leave a lasting impression, and creating spaces that are post worthy.

THE BALLOON DECK FAMILY:

The Balloon Deck Family also includes other family members, such as Michella’s partner, whom she calls her “personal step ladder” and who is the business prop maker, problem-solver and quality control. He has a cabinet-making background and has a wide experience working on luxury homes and uniquely styled interiors, including integrated high end appliances and technology, private underground carparks/basement retreats, custom styled home offices, designer walk in wardrobes and even handcrafted furniture. He designs and builds the custom props for the business. He also assists where required with on-site setups, ensuring installations are safe, compliant with venue requirements, and easy to transport and assemble.

Michella’s two sisters, her mother and close friends have contributed behind the scenes and also assist as part of the day-of crew for larger parties and events. Michella affectionately calls them her “Sparkle Specialists, Creative Collaborators and Brainstorm Buddies”, as they bring energy, fun, and friendly face-to-face customer service while interacting with the customers, venue staff, and other vendors. With her sisters extensive experience in customer service and events, including wedding planning and coordinating, they bring a strong background in management and organisation, applying their expertise to events where required.

In addition they help with late-night pack-downs, they provide valuable feedback and ideas while shaping the vision for upcoming parties and events, sharing inspiration and bouncing ideas off one another to bring each celebration to life.

Michella is incredibly grateful to everyone involved with Balloon Deck, no matter the size of their contribution, they all play a vital role in what the business is today.

2020 is where it all started...

"'We all have to start somewhere! Here’s my journey from 2020 to now...

The first photo shows my very first balloon garland, a DIY kit I assembled during lockdown to celebrate my partner’s 30th birthday back in 2020. The second photo is from my nephew’s 1st birthday in 2024.

Making the balloon garland from the DIY kit was a fun and uplifting activity during lockdown. It added some excitement and creativity to an otherwise difficult time. When the garland came together beautifully, I realised it was something I could maybe create for others too.

I’ve transitioned from making balloon garlands in our living room to creating beautiful displays for events at people's homes, playcentres, restaurants and event venues.

In 2020, I began making balloon garlands for family and friends’ parties, offering my garlands to practice and enhance their parties. I watched tutorials, got inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram, and experimented with various techniques, colours, sizes, and balloon brands.

Initially, a small garland would take me a few hours, using string to tie the balloons together.

Fast forward to 2025...

2020 is where it all started...

Fast forward to 2025, I've created a 10metre balloon garland in just 1.5 hours! Keeping in mind that a lot of work happens at home prior to the event to prepare for a smooth set-up onsite. Such as sorting balloon colours, sizes and pre-tying 260s. Designing and making custom vinyl decals, and painting backdrops and props for custom requests.

I spend my evenings after my 9-5 emailing our customers, drafting mock-ups, placing orders for stock and working on our social media and website.

I've learnt the value of high-quality balloons and the impact of using different sizes to achieve a beautiful design. I’m finally mastering mini clusters with 30cm balloons and discovered techniques to enhance my garlands. I’ve also incorporated orb balloons and florals to my garlands, and I’ve learnt that 260s are my best friend.

Some months are definitely more busier than others. I’m proud to have launched my small business and connect with wonderful people along the way, such as other businesses, suppliers and customers.

Some might say, “It’s just balloons,” but it's a lot more than that. For me it’s about the reactions and happiness my set-ups bring. And I love seeing the customer photos afterwards when they text me to say how their event went and to again give me such lovely compliments."

Running a small business involves much more than what meets the eye. A lot of behind-the-scenes work goes into administration, marketing, planning, communicating and preparation for each event. There’s also a significant amount of time and effort required to build and transport props for all events big or small.

Proper preparation and coordination on event day are crucial to ensure a seamless set-up, efficient pack-down, and, most importantly, an installation that lasts throughout the event.

I want to thank all of my family and friends (Partner, Mum, Sisters, In-laws and Friends) who have all helped me along the way with any of the behind the scenes that goes into each booking.
